As a scribe for Grade 3 EQAO testing at Southview Public School, I assisted students with learning difficulties complete provincial testing in reading, writing, and mathematics.

As a library volunteer at Southview P.S. who already felt like a member of their community, the decision to assist the school and students with testing was an easy decision to make.

Following EQAO scribe guidelines, I did as followed:

  • Listened to students carefully to ensure what I printed matched their dictation exactly, which allowed for students to focus on the testing
  • Worked as a team with other scribes by making sure all students had assistance, which allowed for all students to complete all three sections of testing in a timely manner without feeling rushed
  • Interacted with students in a manner as not to influence or show any reaction to their responses, which helped make sure results reflected student ability

You can visit the EQAO website for more information on the assessment, it's procedures, and results.
