“Redolent,” Alumni Art Exhibition, York University

As an alumni of York University, I was selected to be featured in the 2016 Alumni Show at Eleanor Winters Art Gallery in Toronto. I collaborated with the other featured artist, Eleanor Szydlowksa, and the gallery curator to conceptualize a theme, create artwork, promote, curate, and install/deinstall the exhibition.

As an alumni of York University, I was selected as an artist for the 2016 Alumni Show at Eleanor Winters Art Gallery in Toronto.

The exhibition required a long-distance collaboration with fellow exhibiting UK-based artist, Eleanor Szydlowska. In my role as co-exhibitor, I carried out the following:

  • Created a detailed exhibition proposal with a coherent plan and theme that was chosen by gallery curators for the annual Alumni Exhibition
  • Created a series of woodburnings that worked with the photographs of my fellow exhibitor, which resulted in in-depth discussions related to the exhibition
  • Communicated and collaborated with the gallery curator and fellow exhibitor via email, phone, Skype, and Google Drive, which allowed deadlines to be met despite geographical challenges
  • Formulated an appealing layout of the exhibition that allowed the exhibition installation to be completed in one day
  • Marketed and promoted the exhibition through social media and posters throughout the gallery area, resulting in a good public turnout
  • Designed, edited, and printed exhibition pamphlets, posters, and business cards
  • Networked with visitors and professionals that have opened doors for subsequent and future commissions

The goal of the exhibition was to explore the complexity of memory and nostalgia. With Eleanor's photography collages and my large woodburnings, we hoped to create a space where the public could engage in a dialogue.
