As a volunteer for the Kingston Association of Museums, Art Galleries, and Historic Sites, one of my tasks was to assist in promoting events on the association's social media platforms. I helped specifically with creating posting material for their Instagram account (@kingstonmuseums). Some of the posts were also linked to Facebook and Twitter.
My goal was to assist KAM in increasing the interaction between the public and it's member institutions. Promotion of such institutions that are about the preservation of truth is of great importance to me, especially on social media where you constantly encounter inaccuracies.
My main job was to create posts for KAM's Instagram account (specifically #StorytimeMonday, a 2017 series). In my role as Social Media Marketing Assistant I completed the following:
- Created Instagram posts for #StorytimeMonday by researching, summarizing, writing, and editing content, which helped double the number of account followers during 2017
- Reposted online digital archives or took personal photographs that resulted in the account's most liked and commented on photographs
- Collaborated with KAM staff about future promotions in person, via email, and on Google Drive
- Met deadlines to ensure posting content promoted upcoming association events (i.e. Bring Your Thing and Doors Open Kingston), resulting in increased public attendance from one event to the next
