While studying abroad at the University of Leeds in England, I co-curated and participated in a group art exhibition called Watch This Space. The exhibition was held in the historical prison cells of Leeds Town Hall. The exhibition was a year-end project for the Fine Arts program.
The goal of the exhibition was to learn through experience the skills needed to successfully put together an exhibition outside of the classroom and in the real world.
As a member of the group, I was in charge of tasks, such as, finding and securing a venue, marketing, curating, installation, and deinstallation. Among these tasks I:
- Created a detailed proposal for both the university and venue that successfully secured us a location
- Created an abstract painting series titled, "Confluence," that worked with the pieces of my seven fellow exhibitors, but also could stand on it's own
- Adhered to University of Leeds brand and logo procedures and guidelines, which allowed us to promote the exhibition in advance and roughly predict attendance for opening reception
- Promoted the exhibition by using various social media platforms which led to an at capacity opening reception
- Negotiated contracts and ensured all safety guidelines were met, resulting in an accident-free event and the continued preservation of the venue as a historical site
- Conducted interviews and took photographs to document the exhibition in a printed and bound exhibition catalogue
